SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Risdmuseum.org is a forum for artists, curators, educators, students, and academics investigating the materials, techniques, and meaning of objects.
OVERVIEW
Submissions should not exceed 1250 words in length, and should relate to RISD Museum objects and exhibitions or a relevant process of making. While submissions should be informative, they do not have to take the format of an article. We encourage innovation and realize that there is more than one way to tell a story or formulate an engaging argument.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Please email any submissions to the assistant director of digital initiatives, jradtke@risd.edu.
Submissions should be emailed as a .doc, .docx, .odt, or .txt. In the document, please also include 1) a title of your piece, 2) your name as it should appear on the site, and 3) a very short description of yourself (are you a student, faculty, artist, designer?). Along with your full article please provide a 10 to 30 -word abstract that will appear on the RISD Museum’s Projects and Publications page. If your piece references quotations, authors, or other works, they should be properly footnoted. We encourage you to make clear in the document the placement of images, media, or hyperlinks.
All submissions will be edited, and we may offer you suggestions, corrections, or alterations. If your article relates to an object in our collection, your submission will also be shared with the relevant curator who may also provide their feedback.
MEDIA
All connected media should be relevant to your submission. Please submit at least one image. Images should be at least 150dpi and be at least 3000px on the long dimension. Video files can be hosted on the RISD Museum’s Vimeo. Sound files can be hosted on the RISD Museum’s SoundCloud account and be submitted as .wav or .mp3. Captions and descriptions should be provided where appropriate and credit the photographer/videographer.
The use of images, sound files, or video content belonging to the RISD Museum or the author is encouraged; proper permissions need to be obtained for all other content. To locate object images in the Museum’s collection, please refer to our Art & Design page.
COPYRIGHT
Authors are solely responsible for the content that they submit. By sending their submission for inclusion on risdmuseum.org, authors agree to the risdmuseum.org Terms of Use including to (1) comply with all applicable laws, including without limitation copyright and other intellectual property, defamation, and privacy laws, and (2) to obtain all necessary permissions before sending in their submission for consideration.
