The RISD Museum partners with the Studio Institute’s Arts Intern Providence Program to offer full-time summer internships. New this year, we will also offer a winter/spring 2021 part-time internship in the museum's graphic design department.
The Arts Intern program provides exciting opportunities for college undergraduates to learn about nonprofit professions through internships at museums and other cultural institutions. The program seeks candidates with demonstrated financial need and encourages applicants from diverse cultural backgrounds. Each intern works closely with a staff mentor on a project relevant to their areas of interest. In addition, Arts Interns participate as a group in program assignments and visits with regional museum and arts professionals.
Applicants must be enrolled as full-time juniors or seniors in Spring 2021. They must attend college or live in Providence County. Lastly, they must have an Expected Family Contribution of less than $5000 (as listed on the student’s FAFSA form). International students are not eligible for this program.
The Graphic Design Intern at the RISD Museum will learn how to design experiential graphics from concept to delivery of files for production. The intern will work with the curators, museum editor, and installation manager to design the graphics for an upcoming exhibition while receiving guidance and instruction from the graphic design department, creating a graphic identity for the exhibition and produce all relevant materials, including title, chat labels, and object labels. Tasks may also include designing and producing promotional materials for fall programs in coordination with educators and marketing staff. They will be introduced to the systems, tools, and processes the RISD Museum uses and will practice everyday workflow, management, and design strategies. Successful applicants will have a strong understanding of typography and graphic design fundamentals and proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. See this position and other positions in the Providence program here.
This program consists of 165 hours, to be scheduled between December 2020 and April 2021 at the convenience of the student and supervisor. The intern will complete at least one day of training in early December. The intern will receive a $2800 stipend. Visit the Program Details page for more information.
