Work in Process
About
Artist and former RISD Museum artist fellow Xander Marro shares excerpts from a book in progress: Ready for the House, which focuses on the Wedding Cake House, a historical house in Providence that was recently renovated in 2017.
Ready for the House is an illustrated experimental narrative about the DIY feminist artist-led renovation of the Victorian mansion that sat abandoned for nearly thirty years. The book is a personal, embodied exploration into the restoration project that navigates how to share space, lives, resources, and labor outside of traditional family structures.

Xander Marro has been living the good life in the feminist sub-underground for too many years to count on her long bony fingers. She draws pictures (usually narrative), makes movies (usually not narrative), produces plays with elaborate sets and costumes (usually narrative, but confusing), and makes stuff like posters, quilts and dioramas (probably narrative?). Her work is often about spiritual relationships to the material stuff of this world. Co-founder of the Dirt Palace, a feminist cupcake encrusted netherworld located along the dioxin filled banks of the Woonasquatucket river.
