From the RISD Museum of Art's collection of 84,000 objects, the curators have selected 375 works of art for this volume. Arranged geographically in approximate chronological order, they represent the high points of the collection. Although many objects illustrated here remain on permanent view, not every work of art will be in the galleries at all times. This impressive volume includes several hundred color and black and white images as well as new scholarly entries by several contributing authors. This project was supported in part by a generous award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Substantial funding was provided by the RISD Museum Associates.
