Provenance

Offered to RISD Museum in 1926 by Edward Perry Warren. Likely acquired at that time by Mrs. Gustav Radeke who gave it to the Museum at that time. Accession number post-dates presence in the Museum.
Published provenance prior to 1926:
"Eleanor Barton has suggested in her unpublished thesis that this was the bust formerly in the collection of Father Generaso Calenzio, and indeed its correspondence with old photographs of that version is exact, even to the base. Our earliest notice of it comes from a publication by the Oratory, San Filippo Neri, 1894, where the Calenzio bust is illustrated as fig. 5, but with no indication of the owner; it next appears in the collection of a Mr. John Marshall, via Gregoriana 25, who obtained it from Eduardo de Scuffi on 28 July 1916, and who stated that de Scuffi had bought it from U. Sanmartini, via della Chiesa Nuova 14, from the sale of the effects of the Oratorian Father Calenzio, who had died on 11 December 1915, in which it had been catalogued as no. 94."
