Label: From release by Sessler Gallery, Phila.:These etchings have been accomplished after much experiment and original study by a most interesting application of the principles of dry point, aquatint, etching and a recently discovered softening process known to the artists. The result is a fusing of method with an aim of interpreting the unusual character and life of these remarkable people. The artists, father and son, are descendants of the first settlers of Lancaster County and have been residents there except for time spent in study abroad. In America, Kiehl Newswanger studied at the Barnes Foundation. The earliest Newswangers came from Switzerland and settled in Indiana and Pennsylvania. The artists follow in the Amish way of life, sharing their religious and social life and helping with their humble tasks.
